Tropical Traditions began exporting Virgin Coconut Oil from the Philippines to the US in 2001.
At that time, there were only one or two other companies in the US even selling coconut oil, and they were highly refined coconut oils, mostly used for cosmetics and skin care products.
The prevailing belief was that coconut oil was dangerous to consume as an edible oil, due to its high saturated fat content.
But having lived in the Philippines for several years, I was forced to challenge my own thinking that coconut oil was bad, seeing first hand how the older generations in rural areas consumed home-made coconut oil from fresh coconuts, and thriving from a high-fat diet where coconut oil was their main dietary oil.
We started making our own coconut oil by hand, the traditional way, and consuming it as a family. We decided to make this product available to the US market. Distinguishing this hand-made traditional coconut oil from the refined coconut oils mass produced by machine, we called it "Virgin Coconut Oil."
We were the first ones to export Virgin Coconut Oil from the Philippines to the US market. The success overwhelmed us.
Today, more than 20 years later, there are many other companies now selling coconut oil again in the US, most of them mass-produced by machines.
But we are committed to time-honored traditional practices that have produced natural coconut oils for hundreds, if not thousands of years.
Our Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is still made by hand by small-scale family producers in the Philippines.
These producers have learned a lot of things over the years, since most of them have been producing this oil for over 20 years now.
They have learned how to pick out the best coconuts from each harvest that produce the best quality oil.

Characteristics of Our Gold Label® Virgin Coconut Oil
This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil.
Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines.
Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest.
The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world!
Testing done in independent laboratories on coconut oil antioxidants reveals higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than other coconut oils.
The fresh coconut meat is shredded and then the water from inside the coconuts is added to make coconut milk (wet-milled). The coconut milk is then allowed to sit for about half a day, while the oil naturally separates from the heavier water.
The oil is then heated for a short time and filtered from the curds (coconut solids).
No chemicals are used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids.
We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years.
The families who produce the oil are also trained according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and re-certified each year.

There is so much bad information out there about sea moss gel, written and promoted by companies that sell their products who have created a false narrative. There is no FDA oversight on Sea Moss Gel, and we are trying to change that due to the overwhelming number of companies that do things the wrong way. Here's what set us apart from the bad guys:
1) IF YOUR GEL IS ARRIVING COLD, IT IS OLD STOCK AND POOR QUALITY! Most companies can't keep up with how labor intensive making sea moss gel is. There is no machine that makes it if it's real sea moss, and it has to be made by hand. Because of this, companies make their stock ahead of time and freeze it or keep it refrigerated. They pull their orders from this old stock, which means you're getting old gel. We make ours fresh for your order and immediately ship it. Since it wasn't cold in the first place, and it's fresh, it just needs to be refrigerated upon receipt. You will only get fresh and high quality sea moss from us.
2) WE USE REAL WILD HARVESTED SEA MOSS TO MAKE OUR PRODUCTS! Most companies use wildcrafted, or man-made sea moss to make their gel. You can tell because their gel is always the same texture. Real sea moss varies in texture and color, and you will never get the exact same jar of gel twice when real ingredients are used. We can provide certification to prove we use real sea moss to make our products. Additionally, to save money most other companies add heat to their sea moss to make their gel which allows them to use less moss to make more gel to increase their profit margins. Adding heat to sea moss diminishes the minerals and produces a very low quality product. It creates a consistent thick texture every single time, but it's doing nothing for your health. We never add heat and keep it pure.
3) WE DON'T JUNK UP THE GEL!
Most companies use syrups, dyes, artificial ingredients, and tons of sugar to make their gels taste great. They lie and say they don't and get away with it because there is no FDA oversight. We don't do that, and the way you can tell is that it's not going to taste amazing like Welch's Jelly and Jams. It never should. Sea moss gel is not supposed to be a tasty treat. This is the BIGGEST problem in our industry and how we separate ourselves from the competition. You will feel better taking our gel opposed to others.

St. Lucia. We source our sea moss from a sea moss farmer who harvests wild sea moss from the ocean. Our sea moss comes with a certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture in St. Lucia that certifies it is wild harvested. You can have confidence that our products are the real deal and that we do not use or advocate the use of sea moss grown in man-made environments or pools.
Raw sea moss is best used within 1 year. After 1 year, raw moss loses its effectiveness. Sea moss gel has a 30 day shelf life if once you receive it you keep it in the refrigerator. You can freeze sea moss gel for up to 6 months, however you would need to move it into a freezer safe container as glass has a high probability of breaking when frozen.
Yes, all of the ingredients are organic or all natural. We use alkaline water in our gels that don't contain fresh fruit. For our fresh fruit gels, we use spring water. All other ingredients are organic, including our herbs and fresh fruits. We only use organic agave nectar to sweeten those gels that indicate there is a sweetener used in the gel. There are no preservatives or additives in any of our gels.
Absolutely not. When you add heat to sea moss to make gel, not only does it diminish the minerals which make sea moss so great for us, but it also causes a chemical reaction that tells the sea moss to convert into carageenan. Carageenan is not good for you in large quantities, is high in carbohydrates, and it is no longer effective. Many people who sell sea moss will try to convince you that adding heat doesn't negatively effect the sea moss, but its basic chemistry that tells you otherwise. Companies who use heat to make their sea moss gel do so because it's more profitable for them.
Yes, but it should be a fine powder and not iodized salt that is in large crystals like table salt. Anything that has salt water on it and is dried will have a layer of dried sea salt on it.

What is the recommended daily dose of sea moss?
